Selected work
Over the past 20 years, I’ve delivered high‑impact communications work across journalism and the charity sector — shaping national conversations, securing influential media coverage, and helping organisations tell complex stories with clarity and purpose.
Here is a selection of work that reflects my approach: strategic, collaborative and grounded in real‑world experience.
-
I’ve developed thought leadership for CEOs, policy leads and campaigners, placing commentary that shapes public understanding and positions organisations as trusted voices.
Highlights include:
The Telegraph – Social media may not help but it is not the root cause of knife crime
Ghostwritten thought‑leadership piece for Barnardo’s Chief Executive that shifted the narrative on knife crime from sensationalism to the underlying social drivers.
HuffPost – For our children, growing up online meand growing up fast
Commentary positioning Barnardo’s as a leading advocate for safer digital environments.
The Big Issue – Cost of living crisis is over? Try telling that to millions of Brits struggling to feed their kids
A powerful piece highlighting the realities facing families and the need for systemic change.

-
I’ve led media strategies that secured coverage across major national outlets, helping organisations influence public debate and reach the audiences that matter.
Highlights include:
BBC News - Young carers: 'I was tired when I was at school'
I led a national media campaign revealing how many young carers were struggling without proper support at school. Using new polling, strong case studies and clear policy asks, the story secured prominent BBC News coverage and helped drive wider awareness of the need for better identification and support for young carers.
I led the national media launch of the Centre of Expertise on Child Sexual Abuse, working closely with the Home Office to coordinate coverage as the then Home Secretary Amber Rudd announced a £40m government plan to tackle child sexual abuse, exploitation and trafficking at a Barnardo’s service.
The Guardian - Poll finds majority of schoolchildren want sex education
I led media activity for a successful national campaign calling for mandatory relationships and sex education in all schools in England, securing widespread coverage and helping build the public and political momentum that led to the policy being adopted.
-
I specialise in turning complex or sensitive policy issues into accessible, compelling narratives that resonate with the public, media and policymakers.
Highlights include:
Children & Young People Now - Increasing foster carer numbers
Analysis exploring the national shortage of foster carers, translating complex policy challenges and sector data into clear, accessible insight to support practitioners, policymakers and campaigners.
Barnardo’s Blog - We are family: Young people leaving care need the love and support others may take for granted
A blog highlighting the gap between policy intentions and the lived reality of care‑experienced young people, translating complex issues around housing, relationships and transition support into an accessible, human‑centred narrative that strengthened public understanding and advocacy.
-
I’ve helped organisations respond to cultural moments and national storylines, ensuring their voice is heard when public attention is at its peak.
Highlights include:
BBC News - Coronation Street praised for child grooming storyline
Media activity supporting Coronation Street’s grooming storyline, using a major cultural moment to raise awareness of child sexual exploitation and position Barnardo’s as a trusted expert voice in national conversations about safeguarding.
HuffPost - Three Girls: BBC One's Drama About Child Sex Abuse Is Disturbing But Essential Viewing
Commentary responding to the BBC drama Three Girls, using a major cultural moment to highlight the realities of child sexual exploitation and strengthen Barnardo’s role as a trusted voice on safeguarding and support for victims.
HuffPost - LGBTQ Children's Experiences Prove Why We Still Need Pride
Commentary using Pride as a national moment to highlight the importance of LGBTQ+ inclusion in children’s services, connecting a cultural event to Barnardo’s advocacy for equality, representation and safe, supportive environments for all young people.
